Dance in Devon is delighted to welcome our first Creative Intern, Esme Shea to the team.
Esme grew up in mid Devon and has been dancing locally since she was fourteen. She studied A Level and BTEC Dance at Exeter College where her passion for the subject grew.
‘For me, dance ties the mind and the body, challenging and combining our intellect, creativity and our physicality. I find this a rewarding and exciting experience that continues to fascinate me.’
During her time at college, Esme became especially interested in choreography and is going on to study choreography focused degree at the University of Chichester, in September.
Esme’s first involvement with Dance In Devon was through the Young Choreographers South West Programme in 2014, where she worked with renowned choreographers Kevin Finnan and Russell Maliphant, she says this left a lasting impression on her dance training.
‘As a young dancer in today’s industry, I am aware of the importance of being a versatile dance artist in which one can work not only practically in dance but also in arts management. I am really excited to be working for Dance in Devon and I feel it is a wonderful opportunity to learn new things and give back to the social community of dance. I also hope to be a spokes person for young dancers in Devon, so feel free to get in contact if you have any suggestions.’
Esme will be based at the Dance in Devon office in Dartington Monday to Thursdays until September. Esme will be working with us all our projects including the U.Dance South West Regional on 19th April. If you have a dance event or opportunity to coming up why not drop Esme a line and she will be able to share this with the Dance in Devon network: firstname.lastname@example.org
