Local Artist Belinda Chapman will be walking barefoot for 40 days to raise money to help rural Devon schools to engage in the Arts.
Walking barefoot to raise money for local rural schools to engage in the Arts.
The children would get to:
– Watch the premiere performance of ‘The Red Shoes’ at Theatre Royal Plymouth
– Meet some of Mathew Bourne’s performers.
– Take part in New Adventures company workshops
There are limited cultural experiences in rural locations, many schools in these areas are situated at least 1 hour away from any of the nearby cities with no public transport to connect them. This has an impact on the access children have to arts and culture, therefore it is important that trips and workshops like this are available to ensure these children are able to benefit from high quality arts, for it to be a stimulus for their own creativity, to keep education multi dimensional and to keep encouraging creativity to be embedding it in to the curriculum.
A coach would take around 70 children from at least one primary school in South Devon (hopefully more if interest and funds permit) to visit the Theatre Royal Plymouth.
Workshops will take place at the school and involve 3 classes with years 4, 5 & 6.
The barefoot walk will start on Monday 8th August and continue for 40 days until 15th September. In the week commencing 12th September the walk will be open for anyone to join and add to the sponsorship.
