Performing Arts (Dance) BTEC Diploma – Extended Diploma, PETROC College
This course is designed for those wanting to pursue a career within the dance sector. The content focuses on developing dance technique across a range of styles and fosters creative practice and choreographic studies. The programme prepares the dancer for professional training as a performer but also provides the knowledge and understanding required to pursue alternative career pathways. You will study the wider areas of the dance sector such as performing arts business, historical context, the healthy performer, physical theatre and dance in the community, providing a comprehensive understanding of the dance sector. Technical training will cover ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap and musical theatre. Basic anatomy and physiology, healthy living and injury prevention are also integral to your studies.

Exeter Youth Dance Company
Kay Crook leads regular creative dance company sessions for young people in Exeter. The company offers young people a chance to take part in dance – joining in, choreographing, performing and sharing. No audition required. Mondays from 5.30 – 7pm.

Attik Youth Dance Company at Dartington
Attik Youth Dartington is a Youth Dance Company based at Dartington in Devon. They meet on Thursday evenings (5-8pm) in Studio 6 in The Space complex on the Dartington Estate and the focus of the work they do is around improvisation and the process of making dance. The young dancers in the company do all the making and creating, while being directed through this process by Attik.
The evenings are fun and the skills everyone learns are immediately transferable to any dance or creative studies the participants are involved in. £7.50 per session.

Dance Junction: Mondays 5.15-6.45pm
In Junction young people enjoy experimenting with varied dance styles, genres and techniques. They improve their physical performance skills as they create inspirational, challenging pieces of dance inspired by their choice of theme. Company b Dance: Tuesdays 6-9pm
In COMPANY b Dance aspiring dancers train with highly skilled dance practitioners to make socially engaged, original performances. COMPANY b is an integral part of the engine room for creating and producing new dance. Members train, make and deliver high quality dance performance work in a professional environment with professional artists. They receive invaluable creative, social and leadership interaction whilst developing skills in technique, choreography and performance. COMPANY b Dance is ideal for young people studying GSCE, A Level or Higher Education Dance, as well as for those with limited or no previous experience, but with a burning desire to develop and progress. FORCE is a free training programme for aspiring arts leaders to develop skills in dance or theatre facilitation and teaching, technical production or arts management. FORCE members receive accreditation through Arts Award and Sports Leaders UK.
Dance FORCE: Tuesdays 5pm – 6pm, plus additional intensive training workshops
In depth leadership training with the Barbican’s highly experienced Dance Director Jules Laville. Training covers legal requirements, marketing and how to structure and facilitate dance workshops, combining technique and artistic content.

Airborne Boys (All Boys Dance Company 11-21 year olds)
To be part of this boys dance company, boys can sign up to taster sessions to show their interest at the beginning of term. From this 20-25 boys go on to work on performance pieces and develop their contemporary technique and performance skills. This is a great opportunity for boys to increase their commitment to dance and move forward as performers. Also a perfect opportunity to have fun and meet other male dancers in the South West. Tasters session can be booked at the start of each term, in September, January and April.
Airborne Girls (All Girls Dance Company 11-21 year olds)
To be part of this girls dance company, girls can sign up to taster sessions to show their interest at the beginning of term. From this 20-25 girls go on to work on performance pieces and develop their contemporary technique and performance skills. This is a great opportunity for girls to increase their commitment to dance and move forward as performers. Also a perfect opportunity to have fun and meet other female dancers in the South West. Both girls and boys company often come together to work on performance opportunities.
Young Company Dance (8-12 year olds)
Every Saturday, a fun creative dance session exploring a range of dance styles for all abilities. Create a new piece to be performed at the end of each term.
If you are ages between 5 and 25, the Young Company is your chance to take part in a unique range of workshops and productions at the Theatre Royal Plymouth. From master classes and weekly sessions to full scale performances and involvement behind the scenes; whatever your experience you can be part of world-class theatre at TRP!

Exim Dance Company:
Making Waves Project was set up in June 2017 in partnership with Plymouth University, Marjons, Plymouth College of Art, Real Ideas Organisation and Next Steps Southwest to promote dance through Higher Education. The weekly classes delivered to students who are considering studying dance at that next level take place at Plymouth University on Mondays in term time between
5pm-7pm. The students will also be offered wrap around activity’s to help prepare them for studying dance at college or university.
ADAPT Youth Company is for young people age 12-25 with and without disabilities. Their aim is to raise aspirations and confidence, offering participants an opportunity to develop skills in contemporary dance and choreography in a safe and friendly environment. The weekly sessions are free for all participants and transport to and from the group is offered to those who need it. The classes run weekly in term time on Fridays between 4:30pm -6:30pm at Plymouth School of Creative Arts. They are always looking for dancers to join the group, so please do contact for further information.
Space Shot Youth Company
Shot Dance Youth Company is an exciting and diverse community group, which offers a wide range of styles from contemporary to street dance. The classes are worked around the students to ensure it’s reflective of what they want. Exercises and routines are taught each week to build on confidence. The participants have the opportunity to work towards dance leadership courses and arts awards over the duration of the project. The classes’ run weekly in term time on Wednesdays between 6pm-8pm taking place at St Aidan’s Church Hall in Ernesettle.

Ivybridge Dance Academy (9-13 year olds)
Ivybridge Dance Academy is a company for young dancers in years 9-13 which gives the opportunity for them to train, perform in front of 100-3000 audience members and be creative.
It started in January 2015 and is based at Ivybridge Community College in Devon. It is the Elite dance company in the college and is lead by Artistic Director Heather Walrond. Sessions are on Wednesdays 5:00- 6.30pm in Studio 2.
