Dance in Devon is recruiting!
We want to hear from you if you love dance and feel strongly about the power of dance to enable social and cultural transformation.
We have recently welcomed Dr Chris Turner as our new Chair and we are now inviting expressions of interest from people who are interested in joining our Board of Trustees. You will help keep our organisation relevant and responsive to changing circumstances. We are looking for people who share our values and may bring with them skills in; freelance dance practice, finance, fundraising/sponsorship, HR, law, communities, digital content. You do not need to have previous experience of sitting on a Board, nor do you need to have dance experience!
We are living through a period of huge turbulence and change. Dance can be an important way of understanding and embracing that change so it might be steered in a positive and dynamic way. Change forces us to think differently; dance can embody and catalyse that process.
– Dr Chris Turner, Dance in Devon Chair.
We have a passionate and skilled Board but in order to better represent the communities in Devon and the UK, and to benefit from a broader range of skills and experiences we are particularly keen to hear from people who are; between 20-40 years old, disabled, from LGBTQ+ communities, from less privileged socio-economic backgrounds and from people who are of African or Caribbean heritage, Asian heritage, Gypsy, Roma, Traveller of Irish Heritage or others who experience racism.*
*We choose to take guidance from #BameOver A Statement for the UK to reset the terms of reference for people with lived experience of racism. To find out more please click here.
Life is better when we move together.
Do you want to work with us to help us to make our vision a reality?
If you think you have a valuable perspective to offer our Board that will help us to provide strong governance for our charity and represent our communities better please do get in touch. Dance in Devon is a charity for happier and healthier local communities. We create dance activities that make life better by bringing people together, igniting imaginations and inspiring a proliferation of voices. We care about enabling expression and connection, improving health and wellbeing and supporting artists to make their best work.
Our Vision is for an energised county where people’s lives are enriched by the possibilities of human movement: where a new democracy is enacted through inspiring, dance-led activity. We want to push the boundaries of the art and power of dance and challenge ideas about who takes part and how.
Our Mission is to explore new ways of thinking through the body that recognise our inter-dependency on each other and the entire ecosystem of which we are an integral part. Through new collaborative dance opportunities we will; listen, support biodiversity on a local and global scale and shine a light on the choices we make about how we relate to and connect with the world around us.
We hold our Values dear to ensure our projects and activities are of the highest quality;
- Partnership: working with a wide range of allies to co-create meaningful projects that deliver shared objectives.
- Diversity: ensuring that our work recognises, supports and reflects the diverse communities of Devon and the UK and challenges barriers to taking part.
- Care: offering a wide range of bespoke outcomes through dance that enhance health and wellbeing as well as the social and democratic qualities of life.
- Environmental sustainability: ensuring the protection of the environment and actively tackling the climate crisis at every stage of project planning and delivery.
