Introducing one of our volunteer dance reviewers, Esme Rowe:
Hi, my name is Esme Rowe, and my nickname is Mimi. I am 12 years old and I love to dance, sing, act, play the piano and do calligraphy. I dance at Totnes School of Dance and I go to KEVICC’s in Totnes. When I am older I would love to go to Dance College but this won’t be until I am 16. I have two favourite styles of dance these are lyrical and contemporary. I would love to have the opportunity to review Devon dance shows because I love to watch dance shows and see different styles, to be able to try and copy them in my dance.

Review of Fourteen Days | Ballet Boyz, by Esme Rowe
Monday 13 November 2017 at Northcott Theatre, Exeter
The BalletBoyz continued with their current UK sell out tour of fourteen performances, of ‘Fourteen Days’, that began at Sadler’s Well in London and will conclude on the 2nd December 2017 at the Richmond Theatre.
The beginning sequence was very well planned-out with their signature balance beam routine, ‘The Title Is In The Text’. When one of the dancers fell-down of the top of the balance beam backwards there were gasps from the audience, as he was caught in a beautiful balletic position (all part of the amazing choreography).
The next scene was called the ‘Human Animal’, it was tribal piece with very intense music. A solo dancer moving around the stage in circles and gradually the other dancers joined in, they moved like long legged running animals and continued to repeat the steps in a circle.
There were three more acts called Us, The Indicator line and Fallen. The dance pieces were choreographed by a creative team that were given just fourteen days to create their piece and included Craig Revel Horwood and Christopher Wheeldon.
My personal favourite pieces were ‘The Title Is In the Text’ and ‘Human Animal’ as the diverse styles showed us how dance can be interpreted in various ways and all of the pieces had a strong balance and imbalance theme in them that was very exciting. This is a must-see performance that would suit everyone, even if you do not love ballet.
