“I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to join in the workshops at the Young Choreographers South West Residential weekend at Dartington as a volunteer.
The whole experience was wonderful. The choreographers leading the workshops, Sade Alleyne and Theo Clinkard, were inspirational. Very different, but both exciting and thought provoking. The Saturday workshops were physically exhausting, and I learned a great deal about moving, pushing my body in ways and directions that were new to me, out of my comfort zone. The fast pace of the class and workshops combined with the enthusiasm of Sade was exciting. The studio was buzzing.
The Sunday workshops were mentally and emotionally draining. By the end of the day, I felt that I had experienced a completely new way of approaching dance in general, and learnt a lot about moving as a group. Listening and responding honestly to the movement of others. It was a good lesson in dance and in life, I thought. It was also very special to be surrounded by so many beautiful young dancers and choreographers, and in such an iconic dance space. The staff were also very warm and friendly, and I would like to give a huge thank you to Sue Smith for enabling me to take part. The whole weekend was very special, and I won’t forget it.”
Thank you so much for helping the weekend run so smoothly, Jessy. See you soon!
