Mean Feet Dance are seeking a dance graduate trainee to assist the Lead Artist in delivering an exciting new dance training course at Bridgwater Arts Centre aimed at adults with mental health needs. With the support of the South West Foundation, Learning Curve and the European Social Fund we are offering a progression course for participants who have previously engaged with our Dance and Mental Health work who want to develop their physical, technical and creative skills in a supportive environment.
As the dance graduate trainee, you will receive on the job training and personalised support and mentoring to help you develop as a community dance practitioner. You will take on a range of practical and (when you are ready) artistic tasks including:
- assisting with planning, setting up, tidying away and refreshments
- supporting with course administration – registers, enrolments etc
- supporting and safeguarding participants while they engage with training
- delivering warm ups, dance tasks and group exercises
You will be a versatile, reliable, reflective and creative individual who is passionate about working with participants with complex needs. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and naturally put people at ease. It is not essential that you have lived experience of mental health issues but we will favour applications from people who bring a personal understanding of the mental health and wellbeing issues we are working with.
You must be able to travel to Bridgwater and be available between 9.30am and 3.30pm on all the following dates:
12th, 19th and 26th January
2nd, 9th and 23rd February
2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd March
13th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 27th April
Additionally there will be 2 performance dates in late April/early May – dates tbc.
