About
Dance groups for the people aged 50+.
Stepping Out works with local venues and dance practitioners to provide high quality, weekly dance sessions for people over 50 years of age and of all abilities. The classes are designed to be fun, sociable and creative, exercising both body and mind. The project aim to build social support within small communities to address social isolation in older people. In working with local practitioners and venues we aim to develop local infrastructure and talent, establishing groups that could be maintained independently after an initial seed project with Dance in Devon.
Current Activity
We are delighted that Anna Leatherdale in Teignmouth and Becky Jeffery in Ilfracombe are offering new sessions following the end of the Drink Wise Age Well project in March 2017. More details of these sessions can be found here.
Past Activity
May 2016-March 2017
We started 8 new groups in Ilfracombe, Sidmouth, Tavistock, Ivbridge, Moretonhampstead, Okehampton and Teignmouth. We offered free weekly dance classes for 165 older people. Each group explored a range of dance styles including ballet, ballroom, samba and African dance. We supported a local dance practitioner and venue.
